ABOUT THE PROBLEM . . .
• Of the 35.8 million people in the United States living in poverty, 3.6 million are residing in Texas (U.S. Census Bureau, 2005). The largest concentration is in the Texas-Mexico border region.
• Poverty rates are also much higher for Hispanics and African-Americans. Hispanics account for 26 percent and African-Americans make up 21 percent of poverty-stricken ethnic groups, while Anglos only make up 8 percent (U.S Census Bureau, 2005).
• With recent hurricanes, the level of homelessness has increased considerably. This includes displacement of entire family units.
ABOUT RAINBOW PLACE . . .
Rainbow Place was founded for the purpose of assisting those in our society who are in need, especially those who are living in poverty, helplessness, or experiencing hopelessness.
Economic limitations have impaired transformation. Some of the missing support elements are housing, employment, transportation, and job-related programs.
Rainbow Place will concentrate on programs and service initiatives such as:
• Resume Writing
• Job Training
• Computer Lab
• GED Preparation
• Job Search
Our initial goal is to establish some sense of stability by providing clean shelter. It is the concern of Rainbow Place to ensure that the fear factor of instability is allayed. This will enable our clients to be focused on personal growth and development.
PARTNERING . . .
Rainbow Place was established to meet the needs of the community with emphasis on the needs of the underprivileged. It first requires individuals with a willingness to expend their gifts and talents for the betterment of others. It takes business owners who are willing to collaborate with visionary leaders. It takes the involvement of community residents. It requires resources to provide services to underprivileged areas. For the purpose of developing a healthy community, the aforementioned components are at work through Rainbow Place.
With community collaborations we can . . .
• Ignite hope in hopeless situations
• Foster ambition and independence
• Reduce violent crime activity
